My hope is that the Lich King kills Tirion and raises him as a Death Knight.
I also hope that one part of the fight he sits on the Frozen Throne, which will break away from the main part of the spire to float in the air, and shoot AoE attacks at the ground while you have to fight off his minions.
EDIT: When he does that he could say something like: "Behold now, the FULL extent of my power!" "Come, minions! Tear these foolish motal infidels apart! Feast on their flesh! Chew on their bones! ANNILAGHT THEM!"
Yeah, I probably spelled ANNILAGHT wrong.

Not to be rude or release spoilers, but in Icecrown, someone said that Arthas is no more, the Lich King took total control over him, and Arthas is pretty much dead, he is no longer Arthas at all, so, if they were to seperate, the only thing that would be there would be a lifeless body that probably cannot be (or in the Scarlets decision would not be) ressurected...
Yeah, the last part of him that was Arthas is no more. "There is only the Lich King now," - Tirion Fordring.

seems to be alot of this if arthas/lichking dies all undead will persish. That is not true. let me explain why.
The undead was created by a plan who involved two stages:
First the lich king created a plague in northrend, he tested it first on the wildlife of northrend. But realised to have any power he must test it on higher being such as humans. So he spread it to a village of humans in dragonblight(this is said in the lore) to test it. It worked with success, after the village got sick and started to die. He went and did the second part of the plan: mindcontrolling, this is the magical part of the plan. Then the victim died he took control of the body and turned them to kill their families so they also would get infected and raise as undead.
After that village fell lich king conqured many more human village until just a small popultation remained(Valgarde).
So basically the plague works with one biology factor who is the disease who kill the body and makes it become undeath. The second part is that the lich king mind enslave the victim so he has to serve the lich king. This does not mean the person who owned the body will get non intellegiant there is example there undead been raised and they have great intelligents apart from liches. Such as anub'arak(But i think most cases it requires personal resseruction to undeath for this to happend).
Then according to lore, the lich king got weaken so his mental power vained. This gave the opportuinity for several banshees and some other undead to break free from the lich king control(his mental control). Sylvannas windrunner was one of them, then later down in the path of time she succesfully made the faction Forsaken who is free willed undead. With memories of their old life who most parts haunts them(reason why forsaken at large is considered evil, many of them are insane).
So basically the forsaken has no connection to arthas now more, they share the source of the disease but just bcs you kill the source doesn't mean the disease will end. The disease will live on without arthas so all undead will not perish. THat could happen is that the scourge undead would collapse after mental explosion of arthas power if he dies. And therefore die. But more likely is that the scourge would be like the forsaken, free will for a moment until some of arthas command make them join ranks again.

another post, this time more about my own ideas.
Lich king will be the final raid encounter in ice crown that i am certain off. Whatever if he killable or not i leave to others. This is my idea on how the encounters may look like.
phase 1:
You fight arthas and gets him down 10% during this time he will do different Deathknight attacks.
phase2:
Trion and his knights comes in, a dialog happens. Arthas summons up a horde of scourge and trion and lich king goes into melee to each other. This phase is more about you burning down all adds, before trion dies. You get around 2 mins on you so this is a dps fight. THen all adds dies, the lich king will do a shadow attack who breaks trion off and wound him with frostmourne. Trion will fall to other side of the room and bleeding. Trion will take down lich king 5% and the lich king doing the attack will cost him 10% hp. So meaning then you done encounter with add lich king loses another 15%
phase 3:
75% hp now left. The lich king moves towards trion to finish him off, then he is a few yards away. Mograine will enter the fight. And throw lich king off trion with a death grip, one of his death knight will teleport trion somewhere else inside icecrown(Death knight camp perhaps?). Lich king laughes at mograine and says this will only delay my victory some. The players will gets non moving because lich king freezes all. After a min or two fight you will see Lich king slaying Mograine. Mograine rises again and the lich king commands him to help him getting ride of the intruders. Mograine and lich king will be linked so you need to pull them away like the twins fight in AQ40, they will also switch places and using different type of spells. THe lich king will use some deathknight and some shaman spells. Mograine will using heaving melee attacks. THe hp are linked so mograine will have around 20% of the lich king hp, but bcs it is combined this phase will take around 40% of the lich king hp.
phase4:
Mograine dies. The lich king has 35% hp. Muradin enters, with some other heroes in lore(sylvannas, etc). Lich king is enraged and says you think this is all i got and the room shakes and shatters and he let him be filled with new power from souls he conquured. THe player will gains buffs from the heroes. Another band of silver knights will try to fight lich king but he will slay all. then a shield will be activated around him. you will see frostmourne beginning to gets damage from the power he drains. Various mobs will be spawned and aoe damage will accord heavily now. Muradin is walking around the room and setting up a machine to get arthas power sustained(something they discovered from ulduar who has been modified). You will get a debuff who controls the heroes during the fight, kinda like chess but more advanced. THen you need to heal the heroes with various npc, tank and dps and rotate tanking him etc. move him alot. Also pick up adds so they do not kill muradin. Then he reaches 5% you will have the device working and a bright shine will happen.
phase5 Where are we?:
You will appear to be inside another dimension, and you will see twisted sight. now you will be out of combat with the rest of the heroes. you will also get a raid save now, So then you teleport to arthas room if you CR you will enter here or just go inside Icecrown thru instance portal. You need to talk to a npc(sylvannas i think is best) to start the event. You will realise you are inside frostmourne and your body is not in here, you will fight agaisnt legions of souls and 2 mini bosses will appear before Arthas/nerzhul. THe fight is also healing, tank and dps consuming and you will get a stacking of mana burner like in the RoS so you run out of time fast. THen the two minibosses are dead, who also need to be tricked to use his ability against the others Void zones who spawns during the room. then they die you will get insta maan back.
Phase6:
Arthas/nerzhul will appear and Look like some monster fused and speak in unison voices. You will notice there is a taints of a old god on them(Ygg-saron influence lingers). They will use a whoel arsenal of attacks like healing, holy power, shadow power and elementals attacks on the raid. This will be the hardest part of the fight, also will require combination of raid mechanics to keep him down. Very complex fight. You will have to use the npc this time also to counter attacks. Kill time should be an average 6-8 mins or more. Then they are about to die, you will hear lich king scream. Then they die you hear a shattering and frostmourne lies in pieces. Lich king dies of 1 attacks, but you notice something strange then he lies down. It looks like something was ripped out of him and during the event you will hear one of the npc say it looks like fel taint around the wounds. Sylvannas takes the body and teleport somewhere. You will get the loot from his helmet. Frostmourne shards will be taken with several of the npc to make sure they never gets together again.
This would enable that the lich king body died but his soul was taken with the burning legion. The frostmourne has been debatted to why kiljaeden putted something like that in lich king prison. His name is the decevier for no reason so perhaps he used the sword as a mean to escape for lich king so he could do that he did not as a backup plan. The the frostmourne got damage and the device activated the frostmourne strain began to destroy it and release an essence which took lich king soul back to kiljaeden. Something the lich king was not aware ofc.

hmm, I have an idea for loot from Arthas to keep the casters quiet and to let the rogues and warriors keep snickering quietly to themselves.
-Shard of the Fallen, This item begins a quest, "This strange item pulses with power."
When you turn it in you are given a series of options.
Depending on the item selected you are then informed who the item belonged to and what purpose it will serve and how to reforge it
--Shard of the Fallen Master (Uther's Mace, Healers and Druid Tanks, can be forged into a new mace , healing staff, or feral staff)
--Shard of the Fallen Ally (Muradin's Hammer, Melee DPS, can be forged into a new dagger, mace, axe, or sword)
--Shard of the Fallen Adversary (Ashbringer, shattered after the fight, Tanks and Casters, can be reforged again as either a Tanking sword or caster dagger)
--Shard of the Fallen Form (Frostmourne, a piece if arthas' runeblade found after his defeat, can be reforged into a new Runeblade for Death Knights. Not Frostmourne itself mind you but the piece of it within the new sword will whisper its wielder much like how Corrupted Ashbringer does.)
This way Arthas basically drops a legendary for everyone :D
Although I do like the idea of this, I do not want to see everyone running around with lore rich legendaries, maybe limit one to server and not allow them to move servers.
Also, Ashbringer would not be a tanking sword, it is a two hander...
hmm like the idea but i think it should not be that thin it is only one per server who can wear it. make it a low drop rate like eye of sulfuras was in raggy kill. Did drop really rare then i tried to get the weapon during the years i did mc it only dropped 2 times:)
This will keep the weapon not being to many and keep us who hate one person conecept only happy.

We had 25 people kill Illidan, now illidan lost to Arthas before he merged with the lich king, and I think the lich king is more then a 10 level difference in his power.
we can 10man a Dragon aspect and an OLD GOD... Numbers are no longer part of the equation. GG Blizz.... :/

I putting money on
Muradin/Yorg
showing up in the final battle with The Lich King. I am confident of this due to the dialogue in the quest
The Brothers Bronzebeard.
