Sorry, but I just wanted to post this (I have not read the entire thread)
I think Arthas/Ner'zhul/The Lich King should be an 80-man raid boss 40 from Horde, 40 from Alliance, with NPCs helping you like with Illidan.
It would be pretty cool, and correct to lore, to have the Horde and Alliance join forces again for a common cause (sort of like Aldor Scryer in 2.4 sunwell, but more intense). Plus, only then would you really be powerful enough to beat him.

Why does someone with a big cloak be Maiv?
I think she has played her role for now.
Jaina Proudmore anyone? Has a lot more to do with Arthas than Maiv!

Actually... In the War of the Ancient Trilogy books our heroes encounter a group of dreadlords experimenting with Necromancy, raising recently dead night elves. This was roughly 10,000+ years before the Lich King and before Ner'Zhul, Gul'Dan, and Arthas were even born.
In the lore of magic in WoW there is no one source of a type of magic, be it necromancy, divine, or arcane. There may be new ways to aquire these powers (Stealing Light from a Naaru or drawing Arcane magic from the Well of Eternity for example). I could see some of the Scourge's soldiers falling apart, the mindless skeletons falling to the ground, abominations losing their drive to move, and Banshee's dissipating into the wind. But creatures like the Nerubians, Frost Wyrm's, and Liches would simply find the control of the Lich King absent. I suppose things held together by the Lich King will cease to exist but the servents and prisoners would not.

well a Lich is simply a powerful spellcaster who imparted his soul into a relic or bauble to create his phylactery to grant imortal life through undeath by reincarnating everytime he is killed from this item. This does not nessessarily make them attached to the Lich King. For example Naberius, a lich found in netherstorm, is not an ally of the lich king or burning legion.
The Dreadlords had little more than a few pages of action but the description implied the night elf zombie were just mindless shamblers attacking all who they came by.

yeah, they didnt explain much about them but Rhonin or Krasus spoke to themselves about how the legion was experimenting with undeath.
But back on topic, what other bosses could be in Icecrown Glacier 25 man? I love lore rich bosses like Teron Gorefiend in BT or Moroes in Kara, what sort of lieutenants of the lich kind could we expect considering Kel'Thuzad and Anub'Arak are preoccupied?

My friend and I were talking about this. We starting thinking, what if after a while of fighting Arthas it is possible to break his mind away from the Lich King? Like, he regains most of his paladin spells and helps you fight Ner'zhul.
(I forget most of the lore, so I dunno if I put the right name there.)

Well it was his zeal against undead that drove him to the brink of madness, Frostmourne simply knocked him over the edge, so the question is, do we really want him back?
