Get my post and take the angry and the flame off.
All armies have done unfair things, even when acting for "justice" all armies have had their share of bad apples and so on. Not realising that and refusing to understand the perceptions of those actions by those who were on the other side of the gun is just being short-sighted.
This. Take a look at the big picture.

No no no! Pay and play or not- your choice. What about nurses, carers, teachers, musicians, scientists etc; they do jobs which a lot of people appreciate too, and they don't get free gametime. If you want get paid to shoot people and run the risk of being shot it's your decision. Don't make me pay more to subsidise you playing wow.
Wow, quite selfish arn't we? You have no idea what some soldiers go through when they are deployed do you?
Occupational hazard, dont like it, get another job, preferably one that doesnt kill or injure ppl :)
I totally agree pikeyboy.
If there was a system to pay respect to those who serve the public, I think there is a long list of deserving ppl before the military.

and 3rd and most important this game may be played all over the world BUT considering that it is based and created in California UNITED STATES.. Welcome to a American Game.Owned by a french company (or to be more precise, owned by an american company who's itself majority owned by a french company).
Still, stop taking this as attacks against US soldiers or whatever (well, there are some but that's mostly thread derailment). Trying to fit such things in a fantasy game played for relief and escape by peoples from all countries/religions/beliefs is just begging for problems. It's not showing your appreciation for whatever to them, it's shoving your appreciation for whatever down the throats of all the others. Wether they share it but don't want to see it in a game or don't share it for their own good reasons.
I mean, do you really want to see in a game a tribute to all armed forces all over the world who did good things ? Would you want to play a world of warcraft where each location is named after a battle, a general, an armed force ? If you do it for wow, it should also be done for every football/basket ball/baseball match, shouldn't it ? For every TV emission. And so on and so forth... And after armed forces you would also have to talk about police, health people and whatnot. There's simply no end.
This has nothing to do with caring about military or not, it's about there being places and occasions which are organized to show your appreciation to those people. You can also do more if you want, by yourself. What there is no need of is to do this in every single area of your life or to force others to do/watch it outside of those specific occasions.
Anyway, it'll never happen because the guys of Blizzard have that common sense : not everything needs to be advertised permanently and to everyone, even if it's patriotic love for your country.

I just had to post this
Blizzard Entertainment is an American video game developer and publisher headquartered in Irvine, California. It is a division of Activision Blizzard. And on that exact same page, had you followed the link for Activision Blizzard, you'd have seen :
Activision Blizzard, Inc. (NASDAQ: ATVI) is an American video game developer and publisher, majority owned by French conglomerate Vivendi SA.

Trust me, it's the worst thing ever. But when it's all you have...you play.
This times a thousand.

Serious question...
Would this be exclusively for the people who are in the US military? Would it be extended to our allies like South Korea? Would it be open to anyone who is in
any
military, even those of our rivals like Russia and China? If a guild of US military vets and a guild of Chinese soldiers on the same PvP realm start a gank-fest, could we accidentally start World War 3?
It's really best if Blizz just treats all of its customers the same.
EDIT: The tabard idea is a really, really good one. You attach your military ID to your battle.net account, and from that point onward, any of your toons on any realm can go up to a certain NPC to get the tabard corresponding to your branch of service. This could be done for every country, no problem.
