Laihendi, how do you explain Matthew 23:9 and still call the Catholic Church a Christian organization?

Taking the Bible literally is not a good thing to do.
Why is that?
I expect a citation of a verse that is violent or about slavery, or metions something out of charachter for society right now. Before you say something to that effect, keep in mind that I will put it into context and show how it was not instruction to live by for today. Some instruction was, some was not. It really depends on who said it, who is was said to, where it was said, when it was said, etc. The bible is not only an instructions for life book, but also a history book. History has nasty points in it.

He doesn't take the Bible literally, except in specific random instances that are directly the word of God that said God wanted you figure out which parts are metaphorical and which parts of literal and it wasn't just some bull#$%^ made up by some nut that people bend to their will similar to Nostradamus... wow that was a run on sentence.
But yeah.

I have a question about Christianity but I didn't want to start a new thread, so I figured this would be as good a place as any to post it.
Is it true that in the Christian faith, a person will go to hell if he doesn't believe and accept Jesus as the son of God?
If so... it doesn't seem very well thought out. If a person lives a moral/ethical life that for all intents and purposes follows the same codes as the Christian teachings, but they just don't necessarily believe that some dude that lived 2000 years ago and have never met is a divine being - They go to eternal damnation because of it?
That would be lame.
That really depends on your point of view. Let me explain it like this:
I love my wife. If I don't treat her with respect and love, then we wouldn't be married. If I had never agreed to do everything I could to make our relationship successful, then we wouldn't be married. That thought, for me, is Hell.
The same holds true for God. He created us to have a relationship with us. If we decide not to honor that relationship and treat it with the utmost respect, then it won't be there. Did you know that most references to punishments for not following Him is simply not being in a relationship with Him? If all life in the universe came from Him (if), and if He is the source of life (another if), then what is it like to not be with that? The absence of life? Death? It isn't as if God will eternally spank us for disobdience, it is that we just wouldn't be in a relationship with Him. I can think of no worse Hell.

Actual Christians will tell you that there is no action that they can judge will or will not cause eternal damnation. The Bible teaches that man judges the outward things, but God judges by a man's heart. Psudo Christians tell you that they are right and that not doing what they say leads to fire and brimstone.
Personally, the prospect of 'Hell' being this comical fire pit is a better prospect to me than the idea of being cut off from God, which is, love, which surpasses all.
Montezuma's arguement is that there is no proof of God, so the arguement is nil. That is his opinion, and I respect that. All of my arguements are based on if there is a God, which is a personal viewpoint, so I can't speak for everyone.
Bootspurr, my entire point is that your view of what is 'Hell' and if there is a 'Hell', is an extremely misinformed viewpoint. Imagine God were water. All water on earth were God. Imagine you decided not to partake in water. You would suffer and die a very painful death, because you need water. You might argue as you were dieing that it was 'unfair' that you were being 'punished' in such a way. You might argue that there are people out there that don't understand the imporance of water, and what about them. Eternal death is not a punishment for not partaking in eternal life, it just happens to be the only alternative.
