Energizer™ Smite Spec: A guide to faster priest leveling!

how come you don't use Glyph of Holy Nova? ...When questing, my PW:S is generally up for 100% of the time, so Glyph of Inner Fire would seem like a waste.
I'm curious about this also.

For soloing fat elites and BGs, I'd be inclined to think that a Glyph of Power Word: Shield might be more appropriate (i.e. for when it needs to be recast).
Having said that, the spec is more than capable of solo'ing elites without the second glyph. I've had the most solo'ing fun since my Paladin :P

Aye, good point
YJMark
. I'll add a line there.
Though I still believe that a person who levels exclusively by DF as a
healer
should rather grab a proper Disc healing spec.
Yup. Until Cata, disc will make the best leveling healing spec due to
Meditation
. There is no viable reason to pick it up and sacrifice 13 talents in the holy tree. For glyphs, I'd go with
Renew
for my second glyph. It's been a long time since I leveled, but I remember relying heavily on Renew for healing during those early levels...though I'll admit I was one of those noob priests back then; a complete fail that though MF was the best thing out there and Wand Specialization was a waste of points...If I knew what I know now I probably would have cut 5 days off my leveling time to 70.
@moonkip, get the staff. MH/OH is nice, but it is extremely hard to maintain a current OH while leveling and the white stats will serve you better from that staff than extra sp imo.

any tips on how to kill undead rogues at level <-60? :) other classes are easy to kill but undead rogues seem impossible, even if they are 5 levels below you.

Yes, get 6 levels above them and then kill them.
On a serious note, we need information to help you out...what spec are you? What gear do you have? PvE heirlooms? PvP heirlooms? Do you spec into PvP talents? What level are you exactly?
The list goes on and on...but with what you have said so far, we can't help you out at all.

full pve heirlooms and rest are blue quality dps gear. i'm not picking up any pvp talents, just pure dps talents like the thread starter suggests. not doing that much pvp anyways.
but it works great in pvp too, only skilled undead rogues are the problem :P level doesnt seem to be the issue, i've had problems with them even since i first joined a battleground (at level 20 ish) due to their will of the forsaken that makes our only(?) cc useless :\
one holy fire and 2 smites usually kill everything in sight but due to their stunlock i can barely toss a dot on them.
only thing i can think of is getting some disc talents that improve shields but i'm trying to stack on dps talents instead.
i'm still a nabcake priest so i'm wondering is it even possible to kill em without getting some pvp talents or gear ^^

If you manage to see one coming up, pre-shield. Rogues will waste most of their stun burning through your shield. The earlier you cast PW:S, the more Weakened Soul you burn through so as soon as your stunlock ends, you can re-shield. It also could help out to have a pvp trinket; I'm not 100% positive, but I believe there is a VoA heirloom one.
You are also pvping as holy, which in general doesn't help out a whole lot. However, since you're leveling I'm not to sure what the best thing in pvp to do is. Anyways it seems like you can take care of yourself against nearly everyone. Each class has their strengths and weaknesses, and you seem to be OP for your level.

How much health do you have? A L60 Subtlety Rogue can burst through 6-7k in 3 GCDs quite easily without sweating if they use Shadow Dance. +50% Ambush crit is painful. Under L60, they can still Ambush, Kidney Shot, Hemo, Backstab, Cheap Shot, Eviscerate and lock you down. And Vanish and Ambush you again, if that's still not enough.
Having said that, if you can build up enough health+shield to survive about 5 GCDs of him wailing on you, you should then have time to heal up, bubble and run. When you get out of lockdown, fear, shield and renew during his reaction time, and get back to it.

I had to make an account, just for this. Thanks a lot, this guide has helped me out so much. My priest might only be level 28, but I've never enjoyed leveling a class so far as this. I never thought Holy Fire>Smite>Smite>Smite, loot and repeat could be fun ;)

Chiv, not sure if you want to add in a section for low-level PvP-reward items.
Dryad's Wrist Bindings
are absolutely OP at level 40, for just 500 honor. You can buy 2000 honour for 30 Stone Keeper's Shards or 9 Wintergrasp marks on an 80 and send them to your alt.

Thankyou so much. Not even for PvP, looks like they're going to be imba for any leveller, and I'm getting them as soon as I hit 40!

Do you think this kind of spec is still going to be viable in Cata from the talents that are available so far? I have been leveling a new priest this way but it's been slow process that depends on when my buddies are on. I don't really expect to get that far before Cata is released and then even after, this spec seems like something that would be fun and even useful to maybe 5 mans or more (because raid dps specs just aren't fun).
I was thinking something like
this (+2 points)
as an end game solo/ farming/ 5man spec. It still has a lot of mana regen talents starting at level 23 from
Archangel
(for 15% total mana instanly) and continuing with
Rapture
(for an instant 2.5% total mana when ever your shield is eaten) at later levels. It would even help with conserving the healer's mana by passively healing melee (with a possible increase in the passive healing due to Archangel).

I wouldn't have your 5 man and solo/farm spec as the same thing, not as a Priest. Things are not going to die very quick when you're killing them as your healing spec. (Relative to a more DPs orientated spec.)
Why not stay faithful to a smite-style spec? Something like
this
for farming/solo killing.
Or take an offensive Disc build something like
this
.
Though, with these Cataclysm talents it really looks like your best bet would be to have two specs completely different, using a Shadow
spec
for farming.
Disclaimer - on re-reading this I realise I don't know much about Cata and Priests, so don't take those builds as truth. They're just ideas.

I actually meant them for leveling. But not to worry :)

Wasn't thinking a list or anything, just thinking about a throwaway line when you're talking about heirloom items to let people know that PvP reward items are easily accessible now through Wintergrasp Commendations. Something along the lines of:
Addendum: Heirlooms.
The best combination is:
Dignified Headmaster's Charge
, enchanted with
Enchant Weapon - Spellpower
or
Enchant Weapon - Healing Power
Tattered Dreadmist Robe
Tattered Dreadmist Mantle
2x
Discerning Eye of the Beast
Also,
Wintergrasp Commendations
are bind to account. That makes vanilla PvP rewards such as
Dryad's Wrist Bracers
extremely easy to obtain.
Or something like that.
