Harro Chiv,
I rolled a priest and decided for shadow. Please forgive me! It was horrible, and terrible.
I respecced to your lolsmite spec, and I am having bucketloads of fun - especially in BGs:
"Oh look, a priest"
"Dude, he just took off most of your hp"
"What the... I don't even...."
This really goes to show that it pays to do some basic study of talent trees, you never know what you find.
Thanks Chiv :D

Priest is almost to her 30's now using this spec and path. Awsome for leveling! I did a priest before, leveled shadow the entire time. This was on a pvp server as well, yuck. This time around it's much faster and I can heal like a champ too. I can dps and heal in a LFD 5 man, and have plenty of staying power.
Mobs blow up in a few hits, and can take on elites higher level then man no problems. I will probably spec shadow later on as I remember blowing stuff up and melting faces with shadow spec. This has made the early levels bearable now.

Love this spec + style.
advantages:
- fast leveling
- burn through mobs
- can heal and dps
- people go: dps-ing as holy? Answer: No, dpsing as Energizer-Smite.
- protect party by keeping shield up on tank, dispelling and curing (regardless of your role)
- healer goes OOM halfway the bossfight: no problem. Energizer-Smite priest is here!
disadvantages:
- sometimes you're dps-ing away at a mob, and then you realise you can't really damage a mob 6 levels higher than you. But they can hurt you. Because of Shield and Inner Fire it can take a while before your realise this.
- makes you lazy. I switched to Shadow at level fifty. Couldn't grasp it. Went back to Energizer-Smite. (level 52 now). Will try to learn Shadow at some point.

I would highly suggest folks leveling up to pickup whatever hit rating on gear they can. I picked up a blue hit necklace over the weekend and it's made my shots land pretty nicely. It only has 11 hit rating but at lvl 31 thats +2.5% hit.
I have noticed that it's taking more and more Smites to down higher level mobs. I would definitely suggest hunting mobs at or not too high level from you. At 50 I think I'm going to make the switch to shadow though. I remember melting faces back before TBC when I leveled my first priest. Can't wait to get to that point again.

lolsmite, is this still viable in PvP? I'm not talking about serious arena-play but rather BG (Battle of Giggles)

Viable for me is almost the same as playable, but then again Muti rogue with axe is playable but not very viable.

is what I had in mind.

Well it's either lolsmite or shadow for pvp, but as I do it for funzies I think lolsmite (unless it smells badly) is the most fun way to go..

This spec is freaking amazing. It's been a lot of patches since I leveled my initial priest, but I remember that it wasn't until my 40's that shadow started to take off. The Holy Fire / Smite rotation with Energizer spec blows that out of the water! I generally can kill things in 1 Holy Fire + 2x Smites, and I never run out of mana. Have done so many boss quests along the way that I can take on more than a few at a time, heal in between, and still not run out of mana.
The main problems with shadow was that you couldn't heal or it would drop you out of shadowform. Now you can do everything the class can do (heals, cures, renews, etc) while doing as good if not better damage than shadow, and have infinite mana.
The best part is queuing up in the LFD tool as both healer and dps. I've been assigned healer in a few pugs and still came in 2nd or 3rd in dps, with zero mana issues. And it's only getting better each level and each new holy talent I get for more damage.
At around 50 I think I'll pickup dual spec and give shadow a try. Right now I feel invincible and can even aoe using Holy Nova. Grabbed around 9-10 trolls in STV and AoE'ed them down to finish a quest. Not the most mana efficient but it was a lot of fun. There is no limit for this spec, and really shows off the priest class.

What if you had so much gold and this is your X'th 80 alt. What's the best min/max prof's for a raiding priest?
I've heard JC/BSing is always min/max best but expensive. As a cloth wearer I'm going with (Dis) Enchanting and Tailoring. Was contemplating Alchemy as well, 2 hour improved flasks ftw.

I love this spec. Thank you, Chiv, for making my second priest bearable to level.
