You aren't going to be able to play football
if you have a broken leg,
in that sense
you are inferior to other football players, until your leg is healed.

My point: It isn't your physical stature that makes you 'great'... it is what you do with what you got.
Bolded the important parts.

It's because. If you think about it. Virtually everyone on this planet, given the choice. Would prefer not to be retarded instead of retarded.
Don't forget that the french use the word "Retard" to mean slow. Retarded people are generally "slower" they are still slower than what is, in the vast majority, percieved to be the norm.
They are not worth less as people. But the word retard is used as an insult because people don't like being called a retard because, even if it isn't BAD, it's still IN MOST PEOPLES EYES worse than being "NORMAL".
Due to its use, it has become a derogatory term. And it's impossible to change that.
Also - Saying everyone is equal is WRONG. if through fault of their own or not. They are not EQUAL. People're better at other things than others. For instance. A person who spends all their life learning how to clean 10th story windows will ALWAYS BE SUPERIOR IN THAT FEILD OF WORK than someone who has say no legs.
The same principal can be applied to this. a retarded person will never be as good at, say, logical thinking, to say an engineer or something.
And also - people generally ask questions like this to try and be pompus, politically correct and arrogant. You KNEW by making this thread you'd invoke an argument....

Great post. Pretty much hit everything on the head that I've been trying to say. Just because someone has less mental capacity doesn't immediately make them worth less as others, but it makes it harder for them to become as worthwhile... and there are people who are worth more than others, you cannot deny that fact.

Either way, 'retard' shouldn't be used as an insult.

Insults shouldn't be used period, but they are.

This is indeed my point, and why people who are non-disabled have a snobbery towards disabled people and insult others by throwing an affliction at them. It is like me saying "You are a tumour!" Or something, but "normal" people would probably find that more unfair because it is uncontrollable and affects human beings like you and I. Oh wait, so do disabilities.
Yes, I knew this would cause a discussion, or a debate, but not someone to say not all human life is equal.
Let me guess Mediator, you think people who are disabled shouldn't have the same human rights as non-disabled people? You agree with Social-Darwinism do you? Hitler's methods of killing 'inferior people'?
Certainly insightful to say the least...

You agree with Social-Darwinism do you?
Social Darwinism is such a wide range of categories that pertain to "survival of the fittest". I have no problem with many parts of social darwinism, like the free market (which at its core revolves around the concept that only the best firms will survive and thrive).
I think the term you're looking for though is eugenics.

I mean I know it sounds harsh or whatever, but mentally handicapped persons
are
inferior, otherwise they wouldn't be called
handicapped
.
You are oh so sad. I've seen your past posts and I'm not impressed either. You are saying, that because somebody has a disability, EVEN IF IT ISN'T THEIR FAULT, they are deemed inferior? We are all the same, we just have different properties. We are all equal in God's eyes. Let's even put aside religion, even ATHEISTS that are civil think that we are all equal.
(I am not implying that athiests in general aren't civil)
What you said it very paphetic, inhumane, heartless, disrespectful, uncivilised, and just plain cruel. Handicapped is just a term used.
I have many friends with special needs (I.e they are unfortunately condemned to a wheelchair) that I see much better people than some. You don't judge people as superior/inferior, and even if you do don't do it by apperance.
Mentally retarded people are mentally inferior is some senses, which is why they are considered to be mentally disabled, just like someone who is forced to use a wheelchair is physically inferior in some ways to others. Obviously those people with disabilities are still just as important as any other person, and their weaknesses can be more than compensated for in other areas... many famous people have/had mental/physical disabilities, but to pretend like someone with an IQ of 65 is just as smart as someone with an IQ of 150, or someone paralyzed from the neck down is just as capable of riding a bicycle as someone who isn't is stupid.
That said, "retard" isn't a very good insult, it's much more effective to call someone stupid, an idiot, etc.

Agreed. Also, 'liberal' could also be used appropriately as an insult. I certainly would be offended if someone called me that.

I've also heard "Boottspurr" used as an insult a few times.

OCD and ADD or ADHD doesn't really effect a person's life imo.

Why do you have to add an anti-liberal statement in every thread you post in?
Also:
of or pertaining to representational forms of government rather than aristocracies and monarchies.
free from prejudice or bigotry; tolerant: a liberal attitude toward foreigners.
open-minded or tolerant, esp. free of or not bound by traditional or conventional ideas, values, etc.
characterized by generosity and willingness to give in large amounts
If that offends you, then you're a little too sensitive.

liberal in terms of attitude that a government should have. A government should not be: willing to 'give' in large amounts, especially when they are giving other people's money. A government that is not bound by traditional values? Is that necessarily good?
And it was just a joke Laihendi. Although it has been a while since we debated the sheer awesomeness of huge government.

My two cents: Retarded is relative. Compared to Einstein, I'm retarded.
