good idea marking the bits that got updated.
you mean the musical note things? yeah it might be a bit of a failed idea that. asterisks just didn't seem to work. maybe the whole concept of a referred note is actually a bad idea in this kind of guide. i'll look into ways of making the info clearer.
edit: ok, removed the silly notes and hopefully clarified the priority thing. actually, since adding the priority lists instead of just rotations that makes much more sense now.
i'll add an 'updated' tag to changes henceforth. it's a bit tricky to go back and add them now because i've pretty much forgotted what i changed ^_^

you mean if you're hit capped?
well 2 points in iDS gives threat reduction and the last point is up to you. suppression is still a reasonable place to put it for the mana reduction.

Also, this change means that SoC is so strong that it may be the best spell to cast no matter what your spec. Confirmation based on solid data is incoming.
Any updates on this?

incoming might have been a bit optimistic. perhaps requested would've been better ^_^

that's correct.
the decision to include a spell in any of the "rotations" boils down to a simple comparison. each spell's DPET (damage per execute time) is compared to that of the spec's filler spell (destro = incinerate, aff+demo = SB).
if the spell in question does less damage for the time spent casting it than the filler spell then it is dropped from the rotation completely. your time is better spent casting another filler spell.
corruption does still have a place on your action bars are destro, however. if you are ever forced to move and don't need mana or the buff from life tap then throw a corruption on the boss.

DP isn't there quite yet. i'm aware of the ongoing discussions on the EJ boards and elsewhere and i'm following it all with interest. however, until a clear DPS increase can be shown, DP builds have the problem of simming very well but not performing as well in "real" situations. DP over LT is also highly dependant on gear and while EJ discussions have the freedom of discussing everything in terms of BiS an FAQ like this does not.
a major problem, as i see it, is that the FH generates enough mana to cover evenly spaced DPs every 20-40 seconds but we are so rarely at liberty to do this in current encounters. while it is not ideal for various reasons we're often forced to tap more often or more sporadically
furthermore points for iDS can easily be taken from suppression by most raiding locks if needed while talent points are much tighter further down the tree.
there's also an issue here of "the recommended Affliction lock spec on elitist jerks". elitist jerks is an excellent discussion forum with a constantly bubbling cauldron of ideas and experiments. however, it isn't infallible and nothing has a 'EJ stamp of approval', that's not how it works.
thanks for bringing it up. i will be closely following the development of DP as a raiding build and will update as and when it is appropriate.

it would never be "noticeably better".
as i said, i'll keep an eye on the situation. it's an option and a fair one at that, but not one that i think has a place in the FAQ just yet.

Is there a means of prioritizing the talents?
So that, if you are a lower-level Warlock, you can decide which talents to skip for others, on your way towards the supposed "perfect" PvE and PvP specs?
At 79, for instance, I am tempted to keep a point out of Pyroclasm, instead of any other spot, until hitting 80.

i would always suggest respeccing at 80 when you transition from levelling to whatever it is you plan to do at 80 (PvE/PvP). an efficient levelling build will likely be poor for end-game and, likewise, a well made end-game build will not be efficient for levelling.
as such you should follow a levelling guide like kappajoe's for levelling builds and then look at end-game builds in this FAQ once you crack 80.

Just checking through the destruction specs and glyphs, and I was wondering why you have life tap as a major glyph in the specs? EJ rates both Glyph of Imp, and Glyph of Immolate as near the same.
http://elitistjerks.com/f80/t38033-mage_equivalent_destruction_warlock/#Glyphs
not telling you to change it, but maybe a mention that there are other options would be nice, its also one less thing to worry about when raiding.

thanks for the link.
my worry is that GoImp only starts to pull ahead for BiS and immo is great at lower levels but is a little behind LT at "standard" 232 type levels.
i try to aim for simple definitive answer to questions like "what are the glyphs for
x
build" but it may be that i'm worrying too much about that and should do something like that link has done with the "optional" tag for several.
it would be great to get an idea of what the difference is (in simmed numbers) for the various glyphs at different gear points so if you (or anyone) comes across something like that a link would be great. in the meantime i'll try running some sims myself.

I was making another topic, but i see that you are still replying on here asakawa so i will ask here.
Ive been asked by my guild to use my warlock in our 25m ICC because we have none.. I am currently Deep Destruction with Soul Leech specc'd, but because we are a caster heavy group, i was thinking about doing Demonology for the first time ever. i have never tried Demo before so i think it's going to be a HUGE change for me.
Ive been looking most of the day on specs for Demonology and ive seen several different ones compaired to the one asakawa posted. Should i just stick to that one posted?
Also several people say i should use the Meta Glyph instead of the quick Decay. Any new thoughts?
Thanks for the help
** EDIT
I went with
This Spec
. Pretty much the exact same but 1 point moved from
Mana Feed
and put it in
Master Summoner
.
i think that was the most common change i have seen with all the other spec's i have been looking at.
Thanks again for this FAQ!

losing mana feed is fine for raiding since the felguard's mana never runs out when the group has a couple of replenishments.
the reason i put a mana feed spec in this thread is because the felguard
can
get low in 5mans and less balanced 10man groups. also, i have yet to have my felguard die in combat so i don't see master summoner as a terrible loss.
that said, for serious raiding 2/2 master summoner is probably the way to go so i may well change that. either way, the 2 possibilities are a starved pet or a dead pet. that point is just about weighing up the risk of either.
the other variation you probably saw was 3/3 iDT and losing a point in DE. DE is pretty good when macro'd into your abilities and DP uptime should be very good without 3/3 iDT.
as for GoMeta vs. GoQD, GoQD is a clear winner now which i'm glad of because i've never liked GoMeta and used to advise using GoImmo even when GoMeta was better on paper.
the problem is that GoMeta is taken primarily so that immolation aura can be recast for a few seconds at the end of the meta buff. the extra 6 seconds of 20% extra damage is nice but not the important bit.
since it is so important to use the extra 6 seconds for IA the GoMeta is devalued on fights that don't allow the player to get into melee range and losing a couple of GCDs can make it a complete waste. GoQD works all the time to raise DPS and molten core procs.

WoW you kill your mana with this build.. was not expecting to be life tapping this much, but thats okay.. the AoE damage is HUGE compaired to Destro. In 5 mans im pulling 4.5-5k although my single boss dps BLOWS. still working on that..
Im finding my pet doesnt go below half mana thru any fights yet in the heroic. mind you ive only ran about 8 or so.
I also went GoQD.. I like.. i find on trash im not casting more then SoC. although that might change with tonights ICC raid(if the server isnt lagged to %^&* again)
Also found a useful macro. On shadow bolt cast it tells your pet to attack, pops trinkets(if you have them), pops Demonic Emp. and Meta. You can spam it because it removes sound and warnings too.. Though this might help some people out.
#showtooltip Shadow Bolt
/console Sound_EnableSFX 0
/petattack
/use 13
/use 14
/cast Demonic Empowerment
/cast Metamorphosis
/script UIErrorsFrame:Clear()
/console Sound_EnableSFX 1
/cast Shadow Bolt
Does anyone have a BiS list for endgame that they would like to share? Should i aim for 4pc T10+ or are their better items?
thanks again. great FAQ
