To get Reservoir Anima you need receive anima items by doing World Quests / Killing Rares / Dungeon / Raids in Shadowlands.
Anima items example: Luminous Sylberry, Darkhaven Soul Lantern, Noble's Draught, Ardendew Pearl.
After receive the Anima Item speak with your Sanctum Reservoir NPC to convert your item in Reservoir Anima.

Your main question is ……. Where and how to use this item with anima?. Shot answer is in your Covenant Reservoir.
But is also important how is this related to the covenant experience, and im gonna explain you this in the next big text.
It may looks like confusing at beginning but is quite similar to previous experiences in real.

COVENANT EXPERIENCE
There is two main resources you will be farming and stockpiling, Reservoir Anima Reservoir Anima and Renown Renown. You can farm Anima in a unlimited amount like you did with artifact power but with Renow you have a limited amount to farm per week.
You will gain Anima with various activities (world quest, pve activities, pvp activities) and will gain Renown mostly with weekly quests.

With one of this resources (anima) you will not autoacumulate, you will earn items that goes into your bags and you have to use in order to stock the amount of currency that they give you. But you cant use those items anywhere, there is a determinate point to use em, one of the seven big points into your covenant.
The covenant is the faction you choose to work for, is linked to one of the maps in the shadowlands so your main hub will be in that map, your Sanctum. Works in a similar way to the class halls in legion, everyone had one with more or less the same utilities but not placed in the same spot because their “internal arquitecture” was different.

Here you can see an example video in kyrian sanctum and an example video in night fae sanctum, but first take a fast read into the descriptions bellow.

SCOUTING MAP – As you can guess is where you start and finish the missions as you did with your followers before. The main difference is that now they fight in a similar way to hearthstone matches so you have to choose their positioning and influence between em. Someone will build an addon for this stuff for sure, don’t care xD.
Every Covenant has the same followers no matter with class you play.
To use this and set missions you need Reservoir Anima Reservoir Anima

FORGE OF BOND – This works in a similar way to previous forges and will allow you to choose traits that will empower some of your habilities or stats. In previous expansions this was “inside” your artifact weapon or inside your heart of azeroth necklace, now traits are “inside” your followers but as they are soulbinded to you, the power gained with trait is for both, you and your follower.
You will start with one Soulbind (follower) but will end with 3. Each one has his own traits. You can only share the powers of those traits with one of your soulbinds (followers) but you can swap the one to share.
The powers a Soulbind Follower offers are fixed and remain the same regardless of the class or spec you play, take a look in here. To allow for customization within each Soulbind, there is a new item type called a Conduit that allows you to alter some of the powers in the denizen's power structure. When applied to a single tree power, it will not only alter that ability, but may also open up or cut off possible selections down the tree.
Conduits are similar to the Relics in Legion artifact weapons or to the Azerite Essences you used inside your Heart of Azeroth. Conduits are stored inside your forge, Conduits arrives to you as items so you must go to your Forge and use em and that will storage em inside the forge in a side-list as essences where storage inside Heart so you can use em and may be swapped around once per week.
The traits in your soulbind has different levels, as in a tree. You will nedd Conduits to open the patch from a level to another and you will also need to unlock every level. To unlock em you will need to gain levels of Renown in a similar way as you gained levels into your heart when farming azerite.

COVENANT RESERVOIR – This is the place where you will come to use your Reservoir Anima Reservoir Anima items to deposit and stockpile em.
The Anima tab will allow you to check how many you have in deposit and will allow you to use your anima and willing soulds deposited to upgrade four different things.
Upgrade your scouting map, and you will have more and better missions and will make your followers stronger.
Upgrade a transport system into your faction map that will allow you to move faster and smoother (portals, gateways, etc)
Upgrade your Anima Conductor
Upgrade and allow the access to a zone that is unique per covenant.

KEEPER OF RENOWN – This npc wil show you your current Renown Renown level and the rewards for next renown levels you will gain.
The Renown tab will allow to check how many you have stocked and wich level of Renown you have. Every level of renown will unlock things like…. A new chapter into your campaign, A increased itemlevel in world quest rewards, toys pets transmogs legenday recipes, the Pathfinder achivment to fly later, and two important things, will unlock new levels into the trait tree inside your soulbinds and will unlock the possibility to improve different things into your sanctum, this things to improve are in the covenant reservoir tab.

ANIMA CONDUCTOR - Anima Conductors control and direct the anima streams to key areas in your Covenant's map. By improving these Anima Conductors located in your Covenant Sanctum, you can open the flow of Anima, revealing new daily and world quests, treasures, enemy champions, and enhancements just for members of your Covenant.

TELEPORTATION NETWORK- In the map where your covenant is, as in any other map, you will have to move flying around with gryphons. This will consume a lot of time. So, upgrading this tool with your anima, you will unlock a way to travel around the map with an insta teleportation system. Works with a different animation in every covenant but is something similar to a gateway system.

COVENANT SPECIFIC AREA – Every covenant has a unique zone that only members of that covenant can reach and use.

Ok so i understand Blizzard needs us to grind stuff, but this is really cancerous.

WQs give 2-3x(3 MAX) 35 anima. That's maybe 70-105 per WQ... that isn't a crappy "spell" upgrade, or 175point rep item.

I have yet to get any from Normal dungeons, and i can't do heroics until i get 155, and completing a normal random dungeon as a tank gives 1 35pt Anima, per day. lol What the hell is this?

Crap rewards from WQs(including minimal gear items to upgrade)... Maybe i'm hella confused on the point of the upgrades, since they don't seem to transfer into dungeons/non-shadowlands areas.

Since hitting 60, ive farmed about 20 hours, and gotten minimal Anima.

Whoever came up with this system needs to have their head examined. This isnt really any type of fun anymore.

Guide: Obtaining and Spending Reservoir Anima
How to Obtain Reservoir Anima
Anima tokens are obtained from completing activities within the Shadowlands. There are 3 tiers of Anima tokens:

Uncommon Quality Anima tokens grant 5 Anima to your reservoir;
Resonance of Conflict is a special Uncommon Anima token that is awarded when completing Anima World Quests with War Mode on.

Rare Quality Anima tokens grant 35 Anima to your reservoir;
Epic Quality Anima tokens grant 250 Anima to your reservoir.

You can obtain Anima tokens from various sources in Shadowlands, such as:

Rares and Chests: Killing rares and looting chests in the four main zones in Shadowlands grants between 1 to 3 Uncommon Anima tokens. This can be repeated daily.
World Quests: Anima Tokens are one of the possible rewards for World Quests in Shadowlands, with a World Quest granting between 2 to 4 Rare Anima tokens.
Dungeons: Anima Tokens are rewarded from Random Dungeon queues.

Not sure if this is intended, but I just did a few world quests for Reservoir Anima. Started with 555 anima, after doing the four quests (one for 140 anima, the other three for 105) my quest tracker only shows 660 anima collected. My inventory was full while completing these quests, so all rewards went to postmaster. After collecting my anima from the mail, my quest tracker is still reading 660.

Not telling anyone what to do, but if this is working as intended clear out your inventory before working on your world quests for anima towards the Replenish the Reservoir weekly quest.

Looks like devs looked at the amount of war supplies people aggregated in the past expacs and figured - people love getting war supplies, why don't we force them to work full time job just to collect a pittance, so that when spend half a year collecting enough to build their travel network they'd appreciate it more.
I absolutely hate how little anima there's available, you need to hoof 10 minutes, then spend another 10 minutes jumping through all the same inane hoops for 1 to 3 of the 35 anima blobs, while there are all these items that can easily cost upwards 30000 each.
All that while funding the "adventures"

The only way to use anima is to deposit it in your sanctum's reservoir first. From there you can use it to purchase cosmetic and vanity items (transmog appearances, mounts, companion pets, toys, illusions, etc.) or to upgrade sanctum features that unlock the ability to obtain some such items.

As far as I know, the only rewards from anima that improve your character's abilities are the covenant armor sets, which must be unlocked through the renown system to become available for purchase from the covenant armor trader in each sanctum. Once purchased, these items can be upgraded in stages by a covenant armorsmith using anima from your covenant's reservoir. The upgrade limit is ilevel 197.

A bit of sanity analysis of costs involved:

Queen's Conservatory 4th upgrade (picked for high Redeemed Soul cost)
12500 Anima
40 Redeemed Souls.
The souls are the time gate - there's no way to get more than 20 per week (other than the extra 5 from catch-up mechanics irrelevant here), so this upgrade should take at least 2 weeks to complete. The souls are not used for anything else other than the upgrades, unlike anima.

Anima can be used for buying 598 items listed here IN ADDITION to these upgrades (and gear upgrades, and adventure table, and...). It comes in packages of 35 for completion of WQ, plus a fixed weekly amount of up to 250 vessels for raiding and epic WQ.

12500/35 = 357 +change, that's 25 of them packages per day for 2 weeks. No flying - you have to hoof it there. Hope you like this WQ and haven't done it 4 times already this week. Finished? On to the next one, no time to lose, chop chop.

If you do both the weekly epic WQs (boss and zone) for 500 total and clear out LFR for the 1190 additional anima (from the entire raid, repeating on normal will not net any additional anima), over two weeks that requirement drops to:
9120/35 = 260 - that's 18 per day. Every day. In addition to the LFR and "epic" quests. Just to keep up with the income of time gated souls, just to keep up with the upgrades.
If you want any of that "fun" stuff on the side (598 items listed in the tab to the left) - you'll have to get even more anima. You'll scour every map for WQ at the rate they pop up, like it's your new job.
It's like devs decided that anima is precious, but then everything you can buy with anima is SO MUCH MORE precious.
Back to the field with ya, peasant. Keep grinding. Your subscription fees are not enough - show us some REAL devotion...

For those of us who, by 9.1, have pretty much collected everything there is to collect for anima, and are now just stacking and capping:

You can convert your anima to gold.
Here's how:

1. Go to the covenant Quartermaster in your Sanctum and buy chest or leg pieces for ~~100~~ 250 anima (depending on which slot is the most valuable for your covenant - Venthyr plate is chest).
2. Buy as many as you wish.
3. Equip all of them to make them non-refundable (or wait 2 hours).
4. Sell all of them back.
5. ?
6. Literal profit.

~~Conversion rate is pretty good, at 100 anima = 250 gold :)~~
~~Conversion rate is nerfed to about ~83 gold for the most expensive piece, still free gold though~~
Conversion rate is nerfed again, now the gear costs 250 anima each.

So now 100 anima = ~33 gold / 7500 anima = ~2475 gold.
You are now probably better off buying the materials and selling them on AH as per below:

There is now a vendor by the Vault, Tu'kol, who sells various items for anima:

As an undead mage in the Night Fae covenant in 9.1, there are 96 things you can spend your Reservoir Anima on. Get the AllTheThings addon and it will tell you. It includes things that will not show at vendors by default because you have to select all classes. When I was buying cosmetic items with Grateful Offering, there were at least two items that didn't show, including one staff and one dagger. As long as you can add it to your appearance collection, it will be account-wide (you might just have to be in the covenant or whatever). There's another vendor here with weapon looks not intended for mages, too. This is for cosmetic stuff anyway, so if you want something to spend your anima on, there you go.

For all people who farm Anima for Transmog / Mount and Farm this !@#$ with World Quest like I
Its mutch faster when u kill the Rares in Zereth Mortis they give 4-8 stacks of 35 Anima = 140-280 Anima per Kill!
The best thing is that this stacks drops by EVERY KILL! not just 1 a day.. it took me a while to figure it out
and in 9.2.5 are still groupes open for the rares u can jump to the servers and kill 24/7
Good farm.

Edit 2023:
The Method with the Evoker work, but its not effectiv.
I farm in 1 Hour 7160 Anima (and not all Rares where up) with Rares/Chests
So every 10 min 1193 Anima, and u dont need to pay gold..

The different covenants have independent pools of Reservoir Anima. If you switch covenant you can take your anima with you, if you buy Traveler's Anima Cache. This makes your life as a main-only-completionist way easier.

An easy way to get Anima is to buy the item that gives you level 60 renown on alts. You do it with each covenant and get 4k anima total

With the introduction of Dragonflight, the fastest way to get Anima at a rate of 4000 per 45 mins is to simply reroll Evokers again and again - though this does cost about 1300g at a time, and you will need to be Reknown 80 with at least one of your characters in order to unlock the Broker Mark of Distinctions used in this method. However, Shadowlands spits up so much Reknown now through the base campaigns that you'll easily hit 80 simply by going through the story on a fresh character.

Each Evoker takes about ~30 minutes to get out of the starting zone, at which point you can head to Oribos and pick up the Threads of Fate starting quest, and jump straight into choosing your covenant. Use four Broker Mark of Distinctions to hit Reknown 60 on all four covenants, thus giving you items totaling 4000 anima. After which, you can drop said items off at your alt's covenant, convert it into four Traveler's Anima Caches and then send those to your main (along with the ~700g you've accumulated on your new Evoker, to lessen the sting of the 2k you dropped on the four Broker Marks).

Anima farm 2023
This farm will net you 1000 anima per 10 minutes of work and cost 500 gold. Completing all steps within 40 minutes will yield 4000 anima and cost 2000 gold. This is repeatable.

Requirements
Setup requires the ability to make a fresh Evoker every time you want to do this. Since you may only have one per server, this may be more frustrating for some than others.
You will also need to have completed the Shadowlands campaign and covenant campaign at least once on the account you wish to do this, reaching rank 80 renown for the appropriate achievement to buy the required items. Renowned
The longest part to this method is completing the quests to leave the Evoker starting zone, given you have completed the Shadowlands requirements beforehand.

Step-by-step
1. Create a fresh Evoker, they begin the game at level 58 and you will have reached 60 by the time you leave the starting zone, which is perfect considering
the quest to enter the Shadowlands becomes available at level 60. Complete the chapters associated with the Forbidden Reach starting zone until you reach Stormwind
or Orgrimmar.
2. Once at Orgrimmar or Stormwind, speak to Darion Mograine in order to begin the Shadowlands campaign with the quest Shadowlands: A Chilling Summons. Choose to skip straight to Oribos by selecting the proper dialogue. Once in Oribos, select the "Threads of Fate" option which will allow you to immediately
choose a covenant. Move your Evoker to the inn, set your hearth at Oribos, and log out at the mailbox.
3. Log into your main (or whoever you're transferring gold from) and mail 2000 gold to your Evoker. Log out.
4. Log into your Evoker, collect the gold from the mailbox and speak to the vendor next to the flightpath in Oribos. Au'Dara Purchase 4 of the
items that allow you to boost your covenant to level 60 immediately, which will cost you 2000 gold total each time you buy 4 Broker Mark of Distinction.
5. Choose a covenant. It does not matter which order you do this in, I prefer to end in Bastion but it does not matter. Once you've
chosen your first covenant, use the boost item and wait while the server catches up and distributes the rewards to you. Each covenant
will provide 4x epic anima tokens, which boost your anima by 250 each, and from all four covenants equals 4,000 net anima. Once
the rewards have appeared in your bags, switch covenants by talking to the appropriate NPC's and rinse and repeat until you have the level 60 rewards from all 4 covenants.
Then take the flight path to your current covenant (whichever you ended on, doesn't matter) and deposit the anima with the
appropriate NPC for your covenant. Once complete, hearthstone to Oribos.
6. Return to the vendor by the flightpath, and purchase 4 of the account bound 1000 anima tokens. Traveler's Anima Cache
Mail them and whatever leftover gold you have to your main, or whichever character you want anima on.
7. Delete Evoker. Rinse and repeat.

It's a little bit involved, but if you want a consistent high volume farm better than ZM rares, this is it.

If you don't feel like spending gold or going through the bleh of Dracthyr storyline over and over again, and have a decently geared 10.2 450+ ranged character with massive ranged pull (BM or MM hunter with Barrage works great) give Torghast a try.
With a 451 MM hunter (with the Sanctum Superior perk) I can complete a Layer 16 Upper Reaches + Adamant Vaults in less than 10 minutes and get 650 anima + chances at a huge variety of transmog/mounts/pets.
Zereth Mortis rare/chest hunting is great as well but lately it has been densely populated for whatever reason so it is difficult to reach rares.

its pretty $%^&, i would need like 300k anima right now to get everything including covenants but im not sure maybe it wouldnt even be enough, maybe 400-600k anima?
How im supposed to farm it when I joined in DF and u can farm 6-7k anima per hour xD do I spend 71 hours ~ to get around 500k anima or is it better to pay some bots to farm it for you since in 70 hours u get a lot of money when u work

As far as i can tell, the 60 renown boost no longer grants the anima items? So these quick methods to gain anima from all 4 covenants have gone.
