I hope that they do not create expansion features to it and leave it as a standalone classic game. The magic will be lost once again if they begin adding expansions to it... Although, if they keep the Classic's mechanics throughout expansion, and do not include flying, lfg, lfr, etc. maybe that would make it a better game than current WoW? Hehe /thinking
Glad they're keeping both versions separated. That way, we can play Classic because we want to, not to get X achievement or Y item.
Cool interview. I'm looking forward to playing Classic.
Still dont like the sharding technology, I hope we dont see it past start zones
The fact that development on this started 2 years ago suggests that they started working on it as soon as they were able, given the requests that were made for this project.
I think it is interesting that they said that the process was not really frustrating. It's sort of like, yea it was pretty smooth sailing and easy once we actually started trying to do it rather than just dissembling and saying it was going to be too hard. Like many things in life, you imagine it to be much harder than it actually ends up being.
I never played Vanilla WoW, so had no idea what to expect when I tried out the demo. It was fun! Super grindy, but that's how it was in those days, right? I do hope they continue to say 'no' to the 'extra' things people want in, like being able to transmog vanilla items to current WoW. Doesn't make sense. You want the vanilla experience, you got it. I think it's going to be great fun! I can't wait to try the full thing.
i personally think that classic wow is overrated and was really improved when bc and wotlk came out.
I'm probably got gonna play Classic beyond a few minutes for nostalgia, but I think the people that complain about the tiniest changes are so childish. Sure, loot trading wasn't in Classic, but Blizzard is changing that for a reason. If that really bothers you so much, just stay on your private servers.
"There are no members of the Nostalrius team working on Classic WoW." maybe they should get some of them!
Gotta spare some free time to try it again, like in good old times.
I don't think you shoudl transfer between classic and live.
I think the distinction between sharding and phasing/crz is a little weird, Sharding is when they combine low pop realms right? Also I kinda wish there was a system where transmog dropped in classic unlocked the appearances in modern wow, I want a corrupted ashbringer or a few other things that are completely unobtainable now, its not like modern wow where you just have to wait a few years and go solo the old raids. They brought back some of the missing smithing transmogs but some are still unobtainable and you have to go ask around like the imbued thorium stuff, I want that chest piece so bad but can never find anyone with the recipe. The transmog backend is still there and its the same big blizzard account, why not have transmog unlocked in classic be unlocked in modern wow, give someone something to show off like yeah we did 40 man naxx.
Sharding on classic will be necessary, i think
Unfortunate that we won't be seeing the return of the art of wall jumping. lol
Summer 2019 seems ambitious release date.
I'd imagine after Nostalrius essentially threatened Blizzard to announce classic at Blizzcon 2016 or they'd leak their client to the public (which they did do), it didn't go so well. Makes sense why they wouldn't hire any of them after that.
I am super glad that they are not changing anything from the original way that the game was, it will make this truly feel like it is Classic all over again. I do hope that Classic will have an active community, in my opinion it will overtake the Live WoW community, but time will tell. I cannot wait to participate in 40-man raids again, and get that nostalgic giddy feeling all over again!
