The Volatile Ore in the achievement is located on the far back wall from the entrance to the Oregorger fight's room next to the giant hole in the wall that he leaps through upon clearing the trash. It looks like a regular blackrock ore vein embedded in the wall.

This ore is ONLY clickable during Phase 2 as the boss is rolling around, it will give an "invalid target" error during the phase where he is attacking directly. Upon clicking the ore, you are given an extra action button to throw the ore to a targeted location on the ground, but you are also rooted in place. You must pass the ore off to another raider nearby and have them do the same thing (Think Ji-Kun's golden egg achievement when it comes to passing the ore combined with the tainted elemental cores from Lady Vashj).

While unconfirmed by my raid, the ore grinder in question for the achievement appears to be a lava bucket on the left-side wall in the upper corner near where there is a small incline between the two far wall paths.
EDIT: See Jeremybell's comment, the ore grinder is a hole in the wall to the left of the entrance as an object similar to the ore itself. In other words, it's on the exact opposite end of the room from where you begin.
You have to pass the volatile ore from raider to raider to get close enough to that bucket and have that raider throw the ore into it (like a free-throw, hence the likelihood of the name being related to the manner that the achievement is done in the end with the grinder). However, as the rolling frenzy is going on during this phase, you must kill ore crates in other areas from the path that the ore is being thrown down to prevent the players from being run over as it is highly likely that the ore will detonate and destroy itself if the boss collides with the player holding it. The ore does NOT respawn if it is dropped in any form, so you only have one shot per pull.

Remember after all of this that you still have to defeat the boss to get the achievement, so don't think you failed it even after doing the ore portion correctly.

We did this achievement tonight and took us quite some tries.
- We had 3 people assigned to throw around the ore, while the rest kills crates. Don't kill crates too fast, or Oregorger enters phase 1 again. To receive credit for this achievement you need to be in phase 2 or you failed the credit.
- There is a hole in the wall on the left of the entrance, which becomes clickable if you have the ore in your hands. You have to stand fairly close to it and CLICK the hole (it becomes an object). Keep in mind that if you get hit by Oregorger while carrying the ore, it will be destroyed.
- If the ore gets destroyed, there won't spawn a new one, so you have to wipe. The range of the throw is about 15 yards.
- If you track the achievement, it will turn white when you received credit, you are then able to kill the boss for the actual achievement.

How to make (easy):
1) hit boss until 2 phase
2) knock down all the boxes and feed the boss up to 80 energy
3) 2-3 people take ore and pull it, meanwhile, boss is transferred to 1 phase again
4) people go with ore to the pipe and wait near it - when boss goes on the second phase again - drop the ore into the hole

EASIEST way to do this, guaranteed -

Mage with Alter Time. Stand by the Ore Grinder, get a druid to give you Stampeding Roar, hit alter time, use blink and blazing speed - get to the ore, click it, alter time will take you back to your original position, then throw it to 1-2 people and click the hole. Got it VERY easily with this method.

If done perfectly, I think a mage can do it with no assistance.

**Note** - this is dependent on making sure that you know where the boss is and the general area he is heading in so you don't get rolled over.

Seems like this achieve is wonky with mage Alter Time.

I used Alter Time near the deposit and double Blink'd and Blazing Speed over to the ore. When I picked up the ore, it rooted me (as it should), but when Alter Time expired it didn't move me back.

Confirmed as of 3-28-2015 that the mage alter time strategy no longer works as our mage had it according to his word and others citing perfect execution on it but the ore disappeared at some point and it was failed.

TLDR: it must be done the normal way now.

Completed this with the guild.

Setup marks for the route the ore will need to be thrown and had DPS standing on the marks (without getting hit by the boss)

Once the route has been placed its pretty simple. Make sure the rest of the DPS destroy crates away from the route to avoid boss issues!

Completed this with my guild yesterday, this is how we did it:

- Set up a predetermined route to the Ore Grinder
- Have 3 of your raiders who are vocal assigned to throwing the ore along
- Throw the ore as far as you can in the direction you are intending to go.
- Have the raid kill boxes one at a time as Oregorger eats them, he seems to go in the direction of opened boxes.

The way the ore works:

- If Oregorger rolls over you while you have the ore then you lose the ore, you must wipe at this point
- Think Ji-Kun egg, you can throw the ore 15 yards only, the position in which the Ore will land is marked with a brown water-like circle. By standing in it you catch the ore.

Concluding notes:

- Move fast, throw fast, you have plenty of time to adjust position to catch the ore
- Good luck!

We just did this one - frustrating at first, but there is a lifeline - the ore will not despawn if it is airborne at the time Oregorger runs the throwing/receiving player.

So if Oregorger is coming for where the ore is being thrown, time the throw so that the ore is airborne as he runs everyone down - you'll take damage but the ore will still arrive at its target.

Solo'd with my mage.
Popped lust (not sure if this affects looting speed)+alter time near the turn in tube, blink, blink, blazing speed to ore, loot, then right click the tube when you are ported back to original spot. (You don't use the extra action button to turn it in, right click tube)

Omg that's actually really smart! I plan to try this next time we do Oregorger, thank you! :) One thing to note though is if the Mage has Rapid Displacement glyphed and uses Blazing Speed, I do believe that they can make it with no assistance whatsoever, even without a speed increase (though of course it helps!

Helpful tip. You need to aim at the targets feet to throw the ore. You can't target the person to throw at them.

The person with the ore will have a gear icon when hovering over the grinder, and they must right click (or use whichever your interaction button is) to complete the achievement. Don't try to throw the ore into the grinder using the targeting reticle.

If the player successfully right clicks the grinder, it will have a red explosion/shooting animation. I've added screenshots to this page, because I didn't see it shown or mentioned anywhere.

As of 7.0 with the class tweaks and mechanic changes a lot of spells are no-longer effective in moving the Volatile Ore around.

Confirmed not working with Guildies.
Mage: Blink & Displacement

Soloable?: NO.
Minimum 2 player, Suggested 3 player or more.
Minimum character level 100, Suggested MAX level.

Where?:
Blackrock Foundry Raid (Draenor, Gorgrond)

What?:
Deposit the Volatile Ore in the Ore Grinder, and then defeat Oregorger in Blackrock Foundry on Normal difficulty or higher.

When?:
You can do this Achievment when boss is rolling around. (Phase 2, boss energy/mana runs out 0)

How?:

Engage boss and wait for his energy to run out.
Pick up Volatile Ore and throw to another standing player in range. (Aim at their feet).
Repeat until Volatile Ore reach the deposit area.
At the deposit area the character holding the ore he can "use/interact" the Ore Grinder, use. (cogwheel icon. DON'T THROW)
Kill boss.

Additional info:
Ore Throw range is 15 yards.
When you hold ore you are silenced and immobilized.
If boss rolls over you while holding ore, you loose the ore.
If you lose the ore you must reset/wipe and try again.
Boss will roll where boxes get destroyed by player.
Warlock Gateway portal etc doesn't work.

The easiest way to do this now is to just wait until rolling phase is almost done, then pick up the rock. It gives you the entire spewing phase to throw easily, and you just drop it in right as rolling phase begins again. It might not be the fastest way, but you can't drop the rock this way.

Hello :D it's my first comment on wowhead o_O.
Just Soloed He Shoots, He Ores on normal. I dont know about warlocks but hunters can solo this, easy.
The only thing you need is a pet and 8 min of your time.

Phase 1.

You need to have your pet tank Oregorger as far away as possible.(as far away as allows)
when your pet gets to many stacks of the bleeding debuff, you then make your pet run away from
Oregorger when he starts casting something. That is enough time to make the debuff go away.
if your pet gets low on health you just use Exhilaration followed by Feign Death to remove your threat.

Phase 2.

This phase starts when Oregorger get 0 "energy". At that point, destroy 10x boxes and run to the ore and click on it when you know that he wont hit you and is going to get remaining energy. Now the fun part begins.
The Only thing you have to do is repeat phase 1 with your pet, except that you cant use Feign Death i think(didnt try). And throw the ore 1 yard in front of you so that you can grab it again after you throw it. Then you do this until you reach the ore grinder. I reached the grinder before Oregorger got 0 energy. So i had to wait for Oregorger to get 0 energy to be able to throw the ore in the grinder.

We did this with 2 people, a hunter and me as a rogue. I guess you can easily substitute the hunter's pet with any third player. ;)

Phase 1: Tank and don't spank too much
We waited until he had spent all his energy

Phase 2: Rolling
We first let him have the boxes nearest to the ore so he wouldn't come back at the end of the phase then the hunter destroyed the rest of the boxes and I took the ore when he was at around 80/90 energy. I started moving very slowly, a yard at a time, because it seems that you lose the ore if you wait too long and do nothing. (I did not verify that, just an assumption because I could see no other reason for losing it.)

Phase 3: Pet tanks
In the meantime the hunter let his pet aggro the boss away from our ore-route and then came to help me throw it. We had set marks at about 15 feet interval so we could easily throw it to each other. We arrived at the ore grinder too early so I had to wait for the next phase before I could interact with it. I kept throwing it on myself to avoid losing it.

Phase 4: Rolling again
As soon as his energ was up and he started rolling again I could click the grinder and throw in the ore. The tracked achievement turned from red to white, we killed the boss and got the achievement!

It's possible to solo, as a tank, but it takes some time. You can pass it to yourself if you throw it 1 yard in front of you. When Oregorger heads towards your path, throw it to yourself right before he hits you to avoid dropping the ore. It will take some practice and it's frustrating because you sometimes won't catch it, but it's possible. The reason why you want to be a tank, is because you take a lot of damage throughout the time it takes to get to the grinder. If you happen to drop it, you need to reset the encounter by either wiping or hearthing out. Good luck!

Didn't see this anywhere in the comments, but the aura you get from holding the ore Carrying Volatile Blackrock only lasts 20 seconds. I was following the advice of other posters and got him back into phase 1, then figured I'd wait until he berserked (which happens after the 3rd phase 1) so I wouldn't have to deal with getting stunned by Blackrock Barrage or not being able to see the ground due to the Retched Blackrock puddles, since pretty much any defensive azerite trait makes you immortal vs. the berserk damage at 120.

Unfortunately due to my immortality, I was unable to reset the boss. Since I didn't want to kill him and be locked out for the week, and none of my engineering or other port items worked in combat, and his damage interrupted my hearth, I had to wait for my jeeves to come off cooldown so I could snag my Admiral's Compass out of the bank, which doesn't get interrupted by damage.

if you're planning on doing this solo, equip pretty much any item with Resounding Protection, so if you mess up you can hearth while the damage absorb shield is active and reset the fight!

Edit: Apparently the grinder may only be possible to interact with during the roll phase as well, oh well :/

Just got this done after several attempts because the ore keeps bugging for some reason randomly. If you fail and need to reset have at least one Resounding protection trait so you can just hearth out without taking any damage.

1. First you want to drain his energy to 0 and get into rolling phase (just afk for ~1 minute)
1.1 (make a group in group finder and make it a raid so you can see your own circle and if you want to be safe keep throwing it so the throw circle and your own circle touch each other) helps but not a must by any means
2. Destroy any Ore Crates from your path to the grinder so they don't %^&* you up
3. Go stand next to the ore and place your camera so you see behind you always (he can only roll from one direction)
4. Pick up the ore
5. Keep throwing it a little bit in front of you (make a group in group finder and make it a raid so you can see your own circle and if you want to be safe keep throwing it so the throw circle and your own circle touch each other). IF THE BOSS ROLLS AT YOUR DIRECTION THROW THE ORE AT YOUR FEET, might need some timing if you're further away from his roll path I did not encounter any problems with it whatsoever
6. Keep moving with the ore first towards the southern wall and when you reach the wall simply go keep going east until you reach the ore grinder.
7. When you're close enough just simply click the ore grinder and it will make a small animation
8. Kill the boss and its done

Hardest part was the ore not bugging out and ruining the run rather than not getting rolled over.

(edit) This appears to be impossible for Tauren (including Highmountain Tauren). I suspect that a character model size bug is responsible. The glitch describe below happened on my Monk, even with addons disabled. However, I remembered how problematic Tauren models have been throughout the years (e.g. in Vanilla, we couldn't fit through the Molten Core portal by Lothos Riftwaker). Retried today on my Troll Warlock and got it after two attempts.

Completed this tonight with a group of 7.

During Phase 1 (aka "spitting phase"), the tank took Oregorger whilst the rest of us stood away from the route we were transporting the Volatile Ore along to keep the route free of Retched Blackrock.
Once in Phase 2 (aka "rolling phase"), and Rolling Fury has begun, we opened the ore crates working from the south of the room up to the north. As Oregorger hit ~90 energy (and moved to eat the last piece of ore) we picked up the Volatile Ore from the west side of the room.
Back in Phase 1, the tank took Oregorger and the Volatile Ore was passed along our chosen route eastwards towards the grinder.
As it's not possible to interact with the grinder during Phase 1, we passed the Volatile Ore around a couple of times waiting to enter Phase 2 again.
As soon as Oregorger hits 0 energy and begins to roll again (moving in to Phase 2), click on the grinder to deposit the Volatile Ore. Note: your cursor turns in to a cogwheel and once deposited the grinder turns red.

Can confirm that it's possible to push Oregorger through multiple Phase 1s and Phase 2s, but the Volatile Ore must be picked up and deposited during Phase 2 (although not necessarily the same Phase 2).

Worth noting that only 5 of the 7 raid members got the achievement He Shoots, He Ores. (The two who missed out have created tickets so hopefully sorted soon).

This is so awful to try and complete. Blizz need to fix the bug where the extra action button disappears after you get run over. I tried 6 times to do this with no luck. I wonder how many years of complaining about this that it will take to actually get fixed......Patch 8.2.

Moderate Difficulty Solo for Level 120 Battle for Azeroth and Level 60 Shadowlands and Beyond...

0) First, set up Macro and add it to your action bar for easy access. Macro is: /click ExtraActionButton1

1) Normal or Heroic Difficulty (depends if you can one shot the boss or not just by starting the encounter)

1b) Turn on your Achievement Tracker, the Achievement text will turn from Red to White when it is satisfied.

2) Attack boss once. Wait several minutes until he begins the rolling around phase. Make sure you do not have any special gear that automatically attacks and kills the boss.

3) Once rolling around phase begins, destroy the crates along the southern and western wall portions, as this is where you'll be walking.

4) Head to the Ore at 33, 84

5) Now, face the southern wall, turn your camera so you can see behind your character, and pick up the Ore.

6) You'll notice that Oregorger always rolls up to you from behind. When he does his twitch just before he rolls, use your macro on yourself and the ore will be caught by yourself while he runs through you.

7) This way the ore does NOT disappear.

8) Now, keep your camera swiveled so you can always see behind you--the entire time, as you have to see when Oregorger is approaching.

9) Use your macro and throw the ore just in front of you and then run into it.

10) Repeat until you get to the Ore Dispenser at 46, 87. Do not throw the ore at the Ore Dispenser: You have to actually click on the Ore Dispenser to deposit the ore.

11) Remember, when he is about to roll through your path, you always see him twitch before he begins his roll. Use the macro and throw the Ore at yourself when he is coming towards you.

Howdy, I wanted to share a VERY easy way to solo this achievement.

Step 0: Get a pet class (Hunter/Unholy DK/Frost Mage/Etc) and get the boss to spawn by clearing the room
Step 1: Locate the Volatile Ore near Oregorger (black ore in the wall, see Wowhead pictures) and Ore Grinder near the entrance of the boss room (again see the pictures). Map a route from the Volatile Ore to the Ore Grinder
Step 2: Order the pet to attack Oregorger and then put the pet on passive
Step 3: Order the Pet to move to the far corner of the room, near the Volatile Ore. You will stay near Oregorger, Do not place any puddles near your route.
Step 4: Wait until Oregorger is out of energy, this may take a moment
Step 5: Once out of energy (Phase 2), go around the room and break the boxes of ore. As Oregorger rolls over them, he will refill his energy
Step 6: Wait until Oregorger's energy is almost full then grab the Volatile Ore. You should be holding it right before he goes back to attacking your pet. (Phase 1)
Step 7: You now have to throw the ore in order to keep it. While holding it you cannot move or use abilities, you CAN throw it a few meters in front of you and then run into the circle to catch it. Repeat this step as you make your way to the Ore Grinder. You should make it to the Ore Grinder with Oregorger still having a bit of energy.
Step 8: Continue to throw the ore to yourself until the boss runs out of energy
Step 9: Once out of energy, you will be able to click on the Ore Grinder. It will glow orange.
Step 10: Kill the boss.

This method is almost fool proof. None of the bosses phase one abilities will make you drop the ore and he will be too far away to target you. Take your time and it can be done. GL

If you're trying to solo this and need to reset for whatever reason (like that lovely extra action button disappearing), a good way of doing so is:

1. Bring up the Premade Group finder
2. Start a group
3. Leave party by right-clicking character portrait, and choosing "Leave Party" (i.e.: don't use the LFG eye icon)

This should bring up a message box that you are not in the instance group, and start a 1 minute timer before getting ejected to the graveyard.

This is faster and easier than trying to Hearth out without getting interrupted and then having to fly back.

2+ players in Shadowlands times and not doing the slow, solo-throwing method?

- Engage boss ,let him spend all his energy and go into rolling-phase.
- During rolling-phase, many boxes spawn. You can kill/break them to expose the delicious ore that the boss wants to eat.
- He will end rolling-phase when you break/allow him to eat 10 total ores.
- The special-ore for the achievement is only clickable DURING rolling-phase. It's behind the boss starting point, near the hole in the wall.
- The trick is - feed him 9 ores exactly - then plan one player to break the final box and the other player to click on the special-ore shortly before the boss eats the 10th ore. This means that you're now in ore-throwing mode when the boss is NOT rolling around, so he won't bother you by breaking the ore!

- You can only hold the ore for 20 seconds! You must throw it before 20 seconds are up each time you hold it.
3 players in your group? Player #3 can tank the boss while the other two manage the throwing.

Very easy for a frost mage as of Shadowlands, Due to Alter Time and the night fae ability. Let your pet tank (one hit then put it on passive), then let his energy drain. When his energy is drained move to the grinder and use alter time. Rush back to the ore using double blink with the shimmer talent, and the night fae ability. Its close if you want to do it right next to the pipe but doable. You'll be ported right next to it and don't have to deal with the boss at all (As long as he isn't charging there which would be real unluckers).

Soloed as hunter 9.0.2. A bit tricky mechanic.

1) You need probably a pet. Warlocks can try too.
2) MD your pet and make sure it holds the aggro of the boss.
3) As boss starts rolling, go kill crates. You have to be fast so you can run to the volatile ore's location b4 boss collect all and goes to P1 again.
4) After clicking the volatile ore watch boss to collect all ores as it rolls from wall to wall.
5) If boss is going to hit you, use extra action button to throw the volatile ore to exact location where you are standing. If boss hits you when rolling while ore is in the air, you catch it again.
6) After boss gets enough crate, it starts the first phase again. And goes to the pets location.
7) Basicly throw the ore a few yards away and run the location, untill you reach the grinder.
8) Wait boss to enter P2 again. It slowly depletes its bar, then grinder becomes available. Click the grinder and nuke boss. GG

Thought I would go ahead and recreate the raid group while I soloed this. I had a min or two left for the phase to end and I
could click the grinder. Do not do this. Do not make changes to the group and/or raid at all. immediately ends the extra button activity. So did my disengage. think that was conduit related. Will post in a few that this is still easy to do in 9.15 (9.2 in a few days).
To avoid the bugging where it just vanishes, Keep it close a possible. A couple times it was just a little too much I guess and even though I remained rooted and appeared to carry it, the button vanished. as long as I kept it at my feet it was fine. Also, when I had an angle where I was turning a corner it would have some issues. So sharp turns when you need to turn... in other words.

1) Don't mess with group/raid during the carry.

2) Keep the throw to yourself as close as possible, while still making progress.

3) 90 degree turns only to avoid bugging.

I did it with my fire mage and took a friend to bait the boss when he got into phase. We did it on mythic so the boss doesn't insta die at the first hit. My friend pulled the boss and hit him until he got into phase (around 65% i think).

This is what I did:

1. Stand as close as possible to the "ore grinder" (I was standing just under it)
2. Wait for boss phase where he is rolling around
3. Alter time
4. Immediately use blink and soulshape to get to "volatile ore" as fast as you can
5. Wait for alter time to port you back (you won't be able to do anything with the ore in your hands)
6. Click on the "ore grinder"
7. Kill boss

Soloing this is a lot more difficult than you imagine it to be. Be honest, do you have really, really good (perfect) awareness and reflexes? Because if you don't (like me) then you'll spend a lot of time making 10+ attempts at this (like me) and eventually give up (like me). To be sure, soloing this one is for people who are good at games, so if you are, then knock yourself out, but if you aren't...? Save yourself the grief.

You can solo this as a mage.
This is how I did it.
You will need alter time, shimmer talented as well as Temporal Velocity r2 talent in class tree, and, the MVP, a rank 3 potion of gusts!

Potion of gusts can be bought off AH oor made by alchemist - rank 3 mandatory

Once the rolling phase begins, you have to stand next to the dispenser, use alter time, then instantly potion of gusts forward once you land you do 2x shimmer and then you run to the ore - loot asap and basically you should finish looting 0,5 sec before alter time snaps you back
Then just click the dispenser and kill the boss.

Yes, the timer is super tight but it's doable - I did practice tries without engaging the boss 2 times then basically one-shot the achievement.

As a Void Elf Mage, this is pretty easy. No need to buy potions or anything. All you'll need is:

- Spatial Rift (Void Elf racial)
- Alter Time
- Shimmer

1. Go aggro the boss using Spellsteal or any other ability that won't instakill it.
2. Place yourself in front of the Dispenser (not extremely close, but close enough so you can click on it once you have the ore), with the dispenser at your back (so facing the other direction).
3. Wait until you see the message that the boss will start rolling around, use Spatial Rift.
4. Wait until the void sphere stops moving. use Alter Time, click Spatial Rift to teleport you forward.
5. Rapidly use Shimmer twice in a row, go quickly grab the Ore. You should have between 0,5 / 1 second left when you finish looting the ore before Alter Time pulls you back where you were.
6. DO NOT THROW the ore, just click on the Dispenser.
7. Kill boss, enjoy achievement. :)

If at anytime you mess up, just go invisible and start over. I had to do it three times until I got it. :)

I did not use any swiftness/speed potions. I was far too lazy to go get any that grant far more speed than the trinket I had on hand.

Strategy:

1) I use movement speed trinket noted above.
2) I cast Alter Time several paces ahead of the chute. As the movement speed from the trinket is not enough to alter time right in front of the chute. (But that is okay!)
3) Double shimmer (I go directly straight from the chute and then curve on the left side). Pathway here.
4) Pick up the ore. I have a key bound to interact, so I don't waste time trying to hover and click on it. I just spam my interact key once I am near.
5) Wait for alter time to bring you back.

Now if you altered time a few paces away from the chute, you clearly see that you can't click on it, that's fine!

6) Throw it just like 2-3 steps ahead of you. Then catch it by running towards it (keep holding your arrow key/direction key after you throw it so there's no delay in your movement/reaction time).
7) Repeat this until you are close enough to click on the chute.

I had to throw it 3 times in front of me, before I was able to click on the chute.

Obviously with a more powerful movement speed potions as a mage, just only requiring alter time right in front of the chute is plausible. Any pot that likely grants you like 70% movement speed boost, will do the job. But I was too lazy.

Took me about 7-8 tries until I got it.

Figured out a nice strat in a group run tonight.
With fails we garrison hearthed out and flew back to try again.

Have 1 person with the person who is grabbing the ore
Have someone else taunt boss to right of room
Wait until he hits the roll phase
Break all boxes with single target absolutely no AOE
Have the person grabbing the ore wait until he regens to 90% energy to pick it up
Once he leaves roll phase you must have people interrupt the boss consistently
Have the 2 tossing the ore do so when he isn't in roll phase
Wait by the goal but stand close to each other and toss back and forth until he enters roll phase again. Ore has a 20 second timer before it gets auto dropped
Once he is in roll phase again, put the ore in the goal, then kill!

A couple additional notes from our run:
* We had a couple people follow the ore runners as back up runners just in case we couldn't catch the ore. I think you should have at least 1 extra back up if you really think you need it.
* We also had world markers placed in a designated path to the goal and marked the goal.
* Class of the ore runners does not matter. Ours was me (a priest) and a warrior.
