I used Pelagos for this. I selected Spiritforged Aegis as the equipment, but I didn't need it.

For this achievement, you want to use Confront Memories on cooldown, and select Armored Recollection. Position Athanos with your back against a pillar, so his Power Swing will knock you back the least amount of distance. Even with the columns at my back, I was still knocked back some distance. You will want to give yourself the back of the room to land in. Don't choose a column side that could knock you off the platform.

After eating 5 Power Swings, just kite the boss and DPS as normal.

I got this on a Trial of Loyalty version of Athanos, so it doesn't appear to be limited to the Trial of Wisdom as mentioned in the tooltip.

This is a very easy fight as boss is pure melee with Pelagos

Boss abilities
Power swing. He will do a front cone swing that deals large damage and does a knock back so don't stand near edge. This can easily be sidestepped to avoid it.
Massive Charge. He will do a charge in your direction. This can easily be dodged. Also point him in a direction that does not make him go clean across the map.
Shielded Charging. He will take a knee and begin recharging power. During this he will put out a shield that rotates around him. GO to the side without a shield to dps

On wisdom is adds Quaking Shockwave which is an AOE around the boss. It will first do a small inner circle and then a larger outer circle around the boss. This can easily be avoided by being at a range. It will toss you in the air if you get hit..

Fight strategy.
Choose pelagos and for equipment choose either vial of serenity (for wisdom because of achievement in case you take a hit) or vial of lich frost. Since he is a pure melee it is very easy to avoid him with aspirant's binding and vial of lich frost. Take the shield from confront memories and dps the boss when it is safe to do so. Make sure to aim him so that his power swing hits you from one set of stairs to the other as this will guarantee that you land inside the arena.. Once he is at low energy he will begin to recharge. Just dps him till he is recharged by going to the side with no shield..

For Wisdom with Pelagos and Inside the Park homerun
His new ability is Quaking Shockwave with is an AOE around the boss which does a smaller inner circle first and then a larger outer circle. Getting his will launch you up in he air.
For the Achievement you will need to get hit by Power Swing 5 times. I recommend doing it aiming from one set of stairs with you back to the other set of stairs as the knockback is really big.

If you want to do on easier way, you can do on Courage trial. I tried it myself and I got achievement on Courage, I guess it is bugged and not working as tooltip says

just did it on courage. still works. very easy. just keep him deep into the extra space and let him knock you back and forth. dodge the charge.

This is also very easy with Mikanikos using Phial of Serenity. Position Athanos on the stairs with your back to the other set of stairs when he uses his Power Swing so you fly to the other end of arena. Use heals when needed and this is a piece of cake! You may have to Recharge once, but very easy once you get the positioning down, just make sure to avoid his Massive Charge or it's game over.

As of 9.1.5, this can still be done on Courage.

This achievement can be done by picking up a darkmoon tiger from the darkmoon faire. Joining the fight, walk off the edge. Place the tiger. Reset fight. Jump on the tiger which takes you out of the form, then dps him down. Get hit by his power swing 5 times (does no damage and you wont get pushed back). Very easy

As of Jan 29, 2023, this is still doable on Loyalty mode. What's more, if you have even ~300 ilevel DF gear, Athanos' hits don't do much to you so this is EZPZ.

Patch 10.2.6 Completed on Loyalty.

Ridiculously easy at 70, the only danger is getting knocked off the platform almost wholly mitigated by moving Athanos to the raised area and keeping him faced down the platform towards the raised area at the other end. I didn't have any equipment and only hit Athanos once to aggro him and start the fight.

I got Pelagos struck with Power Swing six or seven times...I went to Try again and used Kleia and she got hit once and the Achievement popped which was a little weird.
