I finished Master Calligrapher on the ptr. To master circle,square and triangle you need to run on the glowing thing around perfectly. The glow effect will disappear after 2-3 seconds. If you finished
the world quest you can't try again. I did not complete it in a raid group and I always stayed still on the same spot when placing markers.

How did I do it? the most safest way to obtain Master Calligrapher

Create a group under custom.

Under the upper left corner you wil find markers that you can place.
Place a marker at each corner (On the circle I placed all markers around it

I can confirm that you CAN get credit towards the achievement even after multiple failed attempts of tracing the pattern.

When attempting the square pattern, I completed the quest but did not receive credit towards the achievement. I traced the pattern well enough to complete the quest but not well enough for it to count towards the achievement.

After 3 attempts I received credit towards the achievement when I completed the triangle pattern. I followed Niixten's comment and ensured the markers were in the correct spot. When executed correctly the NPC, Scrollsage Nola, had a different dialogue for me when it was done. She said “Splendid job! You know, if this adventuring business doesn’t work out, you’d make an excellent school teacher.”

When you begin tracing, immediately begin running along the pattern to get as far through the pattern as possible before it disappears. Do NOT turn your character with your keyboard. Use your mouse to turn the corners with precision. This eliminates "rounded" corners. Hope this helps!

Movement increase abilities help a lot. Almost did the full circle before it disappeared. Make a raid group before trying it.

Yeh, just made a perfect circle.. first attempt, or at least i seemed to as the WQ completed but i got no progress. Circle remained incomplete :(

Heres some tips to get it...

1. take a few minutes to place markers. think of the circle as a compass. Put markers on the north, east and west parts of the circle, then place markers on north-east, north-west, south-east and south-west points on the circle. this makes the pattern a lot easier to see once the trail disappears.

2. use normal running speed. the circle requires it be be close to 99% perfect, meaning there cant be any straight lines. Keep slowly moving your mouse to keep going in a circular motion. I tried while mounted for about 20 mins but it kept getting an octagon type shape. normal speed is easier to micro manage unless you have insane dexterity and accuracy.

3. Angle your camera a bit more upwards than normal. This is so you can also keep note of any ground markings which the pattern goes over/near (for example in nazmir part of it went just behind an npc next to it). this will help fill in any gaps without markers.

4. Start and finish perfect. This part was the hardest, and im convinced screwed up most of my attempts. Make sure when you leave the arcane orb youre perfectly on the line, not slightly off. perfectly. as in dead centre. Finsih the same way, finishing perfectly on the line is the harder than starting. As youre finishing your pattern trace over, aim for the dead centre of the arcane rune you start on.

5. Have patience. it will take a lot of practice. You cant be 'just off' anywhere in the pattern once its complete, the blue lines from youre route should completely hide any beige/white of the initial pattern.

Obviously you should make a custom group and convert to raid so you can place the aforementioned markers and not complete the WQ by accident.

Well, I guess I won't put myself through this this time.

I would give Blizz a pass if the other World Quest related achievements wouldn't have been a chore or sometimes even torture of randomness and bugs - which most of them were.

I tried this with 6 characters and none got credit. On at least 3 of them I looked at the triangle when I was done and there wasn't a single deviation. The lines were perfectly inside of each other. Used the trick with the markers as well, even took a lot of time to carefully place them. Used my mouse to turn as well.

What does this tell me? Poor implementation as usual or simply poor tracking, something along that lines (no pun intended).

And this was only the Triangle (which should be the easiest). I can't even IMAGINE the Circle. So a nope for me, I either wait until this is fixed/improved or the game randomly gives it to me (as it is common nowadays).

Easily the worst part of this is how arbitrary Nola seems to be with whether or not what you've done even counts as good enough to finish the quest in the first place, let alone get it perfect. A close second, that really makes this achievement difficult, is it's also very easy to one-and-done each shape by accident while doing a practice run. It should honestly give you a grace period and ask if you're satisfied with your work with the option to examine what you've done with the option to try again instead of immediately passing or failing.

I got this achievement as a retribution paladin using steed while the pattern was forming. Be sure to not deviate from the line though!

It seems like the recent hotfix to the world quest also made this achievement more obtainable. I got square and circle in under 5 tries today and yesterday. I failed circle and triangle for hours before hotfix.

It’s possible to get the quest done in the first try but fail the achievement. For the circle one, it may take a few more tries to get the achievement while triangle and square are relatively easy to complete using raid markers.

Update: I got the my last part of the achievement (circle) today while in a raid group. The achievement popped up when I successfully completed the circle on the first try but the quest wasn't finished.

You can obtain Master Calligrapher by creating a group and convert it to the raid, which will allows you to make as many tries as you want/need.

Note that, while you are in the raid group the world quest will not be done, but you shall get the credit for the achievement.
After you get the credit, you can leave the group and finish the world quest by repeating it.

Few tips:

For Master of Calligraphy - Square and Master of Calligraphy - Triangle it would be easy if you set the marks on the each edge of the angle.
I found Master of Calligraphy - Circle the easiest one as you can simply follow the trail without setting any marks.
I recommend to clamp the forward moving button as soon as you clicked on "I am ready." in dialog with Scrollsage Nola so you can easily and more correct follow the trail.
Also speed potions like Swiftness Potion and spells which increase movement speed make it easier to achieve, especially on the circle.

I've got this achievement today.
I was using White Smoke Flare and that was really helpful. I just oneshotted all quests.

I keep completing this successfully on different toons...first try even on a few ..but no credit toward the achievement. THAT is super aggravating.

YMMV, I just tried the circle one solo, didn't make it, so I rode away until the WQ disappeared from the tracker and logged out, onto another character, did some mailbox inventory, logged back, created a custom group and converted to raid (due to suggestions here) and tried it again with a speed boost. I got the "successful" speech from Nola, checked the achievement, and I had credit.

So, it seems that one of these resets your "first attempt":
- leaving the area
- logging out
- being in a raid

These can be done mounted.

Talk to the Tortollan while already mounted and you will stay mounted.

I was able to get circle and square without the tracing lines disappearing. The tough part was nailing the corners.

Do the raid group. If you don't have White Smoke Flare, then just simply place down in corners raid markers (anything but the white one -the skull). And another thing, i suggest you do it on foot, not mounted.

I think this achievement is bugged. I just did the triangle on the first try and didn't get credit on the achievement. Still 0/3.

I have found out that using a mount with wheels (such as Mekgineer's Chopper or Goblin Trike Key) helps a lot with following the lines. That way you only need to make sure that the central wheel stands on track at all times. If you mount up before starting the challenge, you can actually complete most of it before the glow disappears, and then it's only a matter of finishing the shape.

For those of you working on the Master Calligrapher achievement but are only getting credit for the World Quest and not part of the achievement, you need to make sure that when you run the path you stay directly on it. You have to be precise in order to get the achievement; however, you can get credit for the world quest if your not as precise. Trick: Start a private raid group and keep following the path that the NPC gives you. Even if the sparkles and lines go away, follow the path as closely as possible. (It is not timed and being on a mount, being in travel form, or walking doesn't make a difference). Being in a raid group allows you try over and over again to get the achievement without completing the world quest. Trick:Use the WoW addon "World Quests List" (https://wow.curseforge.com/projects/world-quests-list). This addon shows the exact shape of what is needed to complete the World Quest and Achievement. Just keep following the line that the box shows you even after the path disappears and you should get the credit that you need. (Just remember if you are trying to complete the World Quest, you won't get credit while you are in a raid group.)

I used a mount for a circle quest... and I laughed after I trailed off the line... and had to do a perpendicular turn to get to the finish spot, yet I got it perfectly according to the scrollsage xDDD and it counted for the achievement

Somehow increasing speed (either with mount, or any other speed boosts) increases chances of failure to me. I tried on my hunter, woth Trailblazer talent (+30% movement speed), and trailed off too many times. The moment I decided to go in a slower pace by removing it, I got it in fewer tries.

For Square and Triangle, under Interface->Game->Mouse enable the "Click-to-Move", it will follow straight line, did it on my first try. Be sure to mount so you can finish the line while still visible, and also do it while in raid mode so you can repeat if you fail, but still get the achievement.

For those of you who stucked with the square one
dont run straight take the left one first
so u run reverse then it counts for the archivement and open a raid first for multiple trys as it is mentioned above

I had suspected it for a while now, but I am now 100% certain this damned Tortollan needs glasses. I've had plenty of tries where I could see zero difference between my run and the one she laid out for me, they were perfectly overlapped. But today? Today I botch triangle miserably, one vertex is in the wrong place so it's *obvious* that the blue and gold trails don't line up. So what does she say to me? I know you can do better?

Nope. That I should become a school teacher. /sigh

I kept failing to get the achievement because I thought there was a time limit, that you had to complete it before the path disappeared. So I was rushing and going off the lines too much. Once I learned I could take my time and do it I was finally able to get it rather easily.

Hope this helps those who are wondering why they don't have the achievement after completing all three ... make sure to do all three perfectly IN BOTH DIRECTIONS. I can't be certain that is what was lacking for me, but pretty sure anyways
